Porsche 968 Cabriolet MY’92 in its classic colour combination “total blue". The car was purchased by the first owner by Autocentri Balduina (Porsche dealer in Rome) the 29th May 1992 with the standard equipment plus the air conditioning as only option (M573).
Presented at Frankfurt motorshow in September 1991, the 968 was the evolution of the revolutionary transaxle project that Porsche developed to try to avoid the decrease of sales of the 911, fact that never happened. Starting from 1975, before with the 924, then with the 944, Porsche redesigned the concept of GT cars from Stuttgart, powered with a 4 cylinder engine on the front but with rear wheel drive. Even if the 911 was irreplaceable, the “other Porsche”remained on the catalog for over 20 years with all its evolutions. By the end of the ‘80s the 944 looked old: its style derived from the 924 so Porsche opted to redesign over the 80% of the car, including the mechanical, to harmonize the family feeling, close to the 928 and partially to the new 993.
The result is a comfortable GT to be driven with the soft top (electric) open, thanks to the ultra reliable mechanics: the 3 litre engine, 4 cylinders and 16 valves, had an putput of 240 hp thanks to the variocam system. The 968 introduced also the new 6 speed gearbox, new 16”rims with Cup design as for rear-view mirrors derived by the 911 Carrera Cup. All 968s, coupè and cabriolets, were produced into Zuffenhausen plant.
The car offered is in the classic Midnight blue metallic colour, with blue leather interior and blue soft top (original, never changed): the only option on this example is the air conditioning because the 968 was offered with a complete equipment that included electrical mirrors, side glasses and seats, central locking system, alarm, servo assisted steering, electric soft top, ABS, radio speakers and double airbag.
There is the original service book, the toolbag with air compressor and jack; there are still all the original stickers to prove that the car is well preserved.
During its 115.000kms the car had 5 owners who took care of the car doing the required maintenance. Over the last service with change of the distribution belt the interior has just been detailed and the paint professionally polished.
The car has the original Roma license plate and is ASI registered (Automoto club Storico Italiano); it can be seen in Bologna by appointment. Further details on www.gulfblue.it
