Layered in rich history the “RS” moniker is reserved for Porsche’s best offerings. The RS lineage began with the 1973 Carrera RS and has evolved through the years bringing us tremendous driver focused cars. In the water-cooled Porsche era, the 996 GT3 RS was a track focused machine that was not sold in the USA. The 997 GT3 RS cars continued the use of lightweight materials and brilliant engineering in the search of lower lap times and was heralded as an exceptional driver’s car.
The 997.1 RS was introduced in 2007, followed on by the 997.2 RS cars in 2010/11. The motoring press was over the moon about the car at launch, and as the years have gone by, many still say it is the most driver focused chassis produced, including present day machinery. Commonly referred to as the last great analog Porsche 911, the 997 RS cars were of course only offered with a manual transmission.
Regarding the incremental changes in the 997.2 GT3 RS, such as our car here, Chris Perkins with Road & Track sums it up well – “The biggest change between this car and its predecessor is the engine. Displacement grew from 3.6 to 3.8 liters, and despite that small increase, there’s a world of difference. It makes 450 horsepower and revs like crazy up to 8500 RPM. Surprisingly, it’s tractable too, even if its torque peak of 317 lb-ft at 6750 RPM would suggest otherwise. You’d buy the car just for the engine.”
Factory graphic delete cars are very rare – only a handful are known to exist. They show off the pure lines of the car, and some could argue that an RS should be plain white in a nod to Porsche Motorsport cars. One of the most notable graphic delete 997 GT3 RS cars known in the market is one that Jerry Seinfeld originally ordered from new for his discerning collection. Know that when you show up at any event, you’ll likely be the only one there with a graphic delete RS!
The cosmetic condition of this car is “like new” with the very low mileage. Original paint in Carrara White on all panels, and the front of the car is wrapped from the A-pillars forward in clear paint protection film. The car was designated from the factory with Porsche Exclusive Customization Package DZH – that painted the front air intake and wing endplates black, and the mirrors & attachment points in white. The stock GT3 RS wheels in Silver are in like new condition with no markings or rash, and there are no rock chips or signs of use anywhere on the exterior of the car.
The interior is the same mint condition, featuring factory Sport Bucket seats in carbon fiber, and a host of Porsche Exclusive options from the factory – Thick Steering Wheel in Alcantara, Speed Yellow Seat Belts, Aluminum Footrest, etc. The car also has PCM 3.0 navigation and the Sound Package Plus upgrades. See the original window sticker for the full option list including Porsche Exclusive items.
Mechanically the car received a full inspection and service with fluid exchange (oil, brake, transmission, ethanol free fuel) in July 2018. It is ready for backroad drives, or straight into track duty as the new owner sees fit.
A high watermark for Porsche RS cars, this exceptional factory graphic delete 2011 Porsche GT3 RS is offered with the original window sticker, full set of original books and manuals, two keys, documentation file with known history from new, and a custom fit car cover. Tasteful and comparatively understated, this is a GT3 RS you can add to your collection and know it will hold its place in time.
