- Autowriter description: 1996 Porsche 911 C2 Coupe
When Porsche launched the 993 generation of the 911 only 20% of its parts were carried over from the 964 generation. Porsche referred to the 993 as “a significant advance, not just from a technical, but also a visual perspective”. Porsche’s engineers devised a new suspension, an all new multi-link system, that would virtually eliminate lift-off over-steer creating a more civilized and adept car overall. The 993 also received the first six speed transmission available in a 911.
1996 power was increased by the addition of the VarioRam system. As the name suggests, VarioRam varies the effective length of the inlet ducting depending upon engine load and speed good enough for a 15% increase in power.
The external design of the Porsche 993, penned by English designer Tony Hatter, retained the basic body shell architecture of the 964 and other earlier 911 models. However, the 993 received revised exterior panels with much more flared wheel arches and a smoother front and rear bumper design as well as an enlarged retractable rear wing and teardrop mirrors.
The car we our proud to offer here has been maintained to the most fanatical standards of excellence. This car is extremely clean showing only the slightest signs of wear and use. The paint, the sills, the carpet and leather all belie the 37k miles on the odometer. The car still smells new inside the cabin!
The cars incredible visual appearance is backed up by it wonderful mechanical condition. The engine, brakes, transmission and suspension behave like a low mile new car should. Two wheel drive 993’s are light and responsive almost like a modern car. This car feels refined; it is so easy to operate.
Porsche managed to take some big steps with this model which helps explain why the love affair with them has endured for 20+ years now. The secondary market has always been kind to 993’s which was almost universally accepted because they were the last of the air-cooled cars. Twenty years on the 993 feels like such an incredible step forward compared to earlier 911’s. I think it is easy to see why the model can stand on its own in Porsche history.
This Guards Red example is offered in stunning collector quality condition but with enough miles on the odometer that someone can drive the car with out hurting its value. A unique example in the market for sure. This is one to see!
